A London policeman who asked questions and made notes after talking to bus driver Fred Blundell and his fare Anita Harris. The bus parked outside the Hilton Hotel was taking Anita to the BBC studio to sing her new single on Radio 1, called ‘Tuppenny Bus Ride’.

Officially absent due to a throat infection, a festive meal on Wednesday with his production team had developed into a bit of a session which ended with Evans incapable of presenting Radio One’s flagship show. He now faces a carpeting from BBC chiefs, but today he merely joked the whole event off.

It was announced today (Thur), that Evans is to leave Radio One on March 27, the BBC said. Evans wanted to have every Friday off from presenting his Breakfast Show but BBC Radio 1 controller Matthew Bannister refused. Mr Bannister told Evans it did not fit in with his plans for the station’s schedule.
