David Bowie: Self-Portraits And Other Paintings
David Bowie (8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016) was restlessly creative, experimenting with music and fashion, working as a mime artist and a cabaret entertainer, moving into music, acting, glam-rock, banking, video games and painting. Could the energy that Bowie gave to his intriguing melodies, elaborate performances and powerful songwriting strike gold in art? His pop videos, album covers and stage persons were eye catching. Could he do the static stuff that sits in frames as well? Would Bowie’s paintings possess the same power and freshness as that time when 1970s kids saw him illuminate the decade’s uniform brown as Ziggy zoomed into the BBC’s Top of the Pops?
