Christmas is coming! But for over 2000 years it’s already been and gone. The Christmas shopping is done. The Christmas music is playing. Bob Dylan’s reading you a story. The Bionic Man is singing. The Christmas cards with John Waters’ people on them are hanging from the booze-covered mantlepiece. All the family is snuggled up watching Christmas TV in matching pyjamas. Some of you are smoking Santa’s Christmas cigarettes. Others are wondering about Mrs Claus and what she’s wearing and not wearing. Santa has eaten something a bit trippy. The Christmas toys and tat is strewn across the rug. Mum is sat by the real or is it fake Christmas tree.
Thanks to Mark Susina’s collection of found photos, we can see what’s changed. These pictures are all from the late 1950s and early 1960s.
