In 1948, Argentinian women’s magazine Idilio commissioned German-born Grete Stern (1904 – 1999) to illustrate the weekly column “El psicoanálisis le ayudará” (“Psychoanalysis will help you”). Written by Richard Rest, the nom de plume of Italian sociologist Gino Germani. Each week, the column focused on readers’ dreams. Stern stuck to her task til 1951, producing around 150 photomontages of repressed and oppressed women struggling in Argentina’s male-dominated culture.
