Were you in a teenage girl gang in 1955 New York City? It’s hard to believe the girls hereunder were. They’re clean. They do bad deeds in stagey ways, prowling well-lit areas where a photographer can easily capture their venom and menace. My bet is that these photos were part of some cautionary tale for an outfit like the Girls Sisterhood Republic, a scheme to solve juvenile delinquency on the city’s Lower East Side.
These bad girls can be saved, even the one smoking in bed still wearing full make-up at after 3:30am. Whatever happened to her?
