of Washington, D.C. was moulded from a man about town into a man in the military. Camblair’s story was recorded in a series of photographs by the Office of War Information. Camblair’s Everyman was studied by OWI photographer Jack Delano. We see Camblair on his way to basic training at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. We see him getting fit, peeling potatoes, bedding down, driving a tank and on a furlough with his lover and then back home with his mom. Look on with wonder how the Joe Ordinary become Sergeant Joe Ordinary, a G.I. ready to fight for freedom and the American way.
