Long before the digital download, cool kids bought their music from the record store – and took them home in record store bags. There were lost Saturday afternoons flicking through racks of vinyl, seeking something new and familiar amid the often gloomy room bedecked with bands and gig posters pinned to sound-deadening board. The staff would play the new, the rediscovered and the lost sounds to the shoppers. Sure you carried home some terrible music, but at least it was yours, and some of it was great.
