In 1955, Britain’s Picture Post magazine (1938 to 1957) sent Charles Hewitt to Salvador Dali’s home in Portlligat, Spain.
Dali (11 May 1904 – 23 January 1989) and his wife Gala (7 September (26 August 1894 – 10 June 1982), proved genial hosts, getting naked and goofing around for the camera.
The feature, which appeared in the January 8 1955 edition alongside cover model Norma Sykes (aka ‘Sabrina’; 19 May 1936 – 24 November 2016), and articles such as “Inside China”, “The cost of schooling”, “Wolves – Team of the Year” and “George Orwell”, was called “A Day with Salvador Dalí”:
