RIP Richard Todd has died. Richard Todd was immortalised as Wing Commander Guy Gibson, VC., last war hero of Bomber Command, in the film version of Paul Brickhill’s best-seller ‘The Dam Busters’ and as Major John Howard ‘The Longest Day’. Todd was the native turned actor, who in the Second World War was a paratrooper in Normandy on D-Day, doing his bit to capture and hold Pegasus Bridge in fearsome fight. His film career began to fail in the 1960s, and Todd found himself working in Holby city and Midsomer Murders. His life in pictures:
